Under broad supervision, cleans teeth, examines head, neck and oral areas for signs of oral disease. May educate clients on oral hygiene, take and develop X-rays or apply fluoride or sealants. May serve as a lead worker.
* Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay
* Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist
* Checks lymph nodes under client's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer
* Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments
* Exposes and develops x-ray film * Feels and visually examine gums, using probes, to locate sores, periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease
* Makes impressions for study casts
* Provides clinical services and health education to clients and/or staff to improve and maintain oral health
* Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
* May train subordinate staff in proper procedures of day-to-day operations
- Associate's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university AND current Georgia dental hygienist license
- Can be entry level as long as they has passion to work with underserved patients
