Job Description

About the Role:
The Director of Software Engineering & Integrations is responsible for defining and delivering the enterprise’s software engineering strategy, integration architecture, and modern application platforms. This leader drives modernization, builds scalable cloud native systems, and ensures seamless interoperability across clinical, revenue cycle, enterprise, and digital ecosystems.

The ideal candidate owns enterprise architecture, application engineering, API & integration engineering, platform engineering, and engineering standards, ensuring the organization delivers secure, scalable, high-performing systems using modern technologies.



Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Leadership
•Define and maintain enterprise architecture standards, patterns, and guardrails
•Lead architecture for clinical, revenue cycle, enterprise, and digital platforms
•Establish cloud-first, API first, modular, event-driven architecture principles
•Maintain reference architectures and technology roadmaps
•Govern technology selection, lifecycle management, and modernization priorities

Software Engineering Leadership
•Lead teams building custom applications, microservices, and internal tools
•Modernize legacy systems into cloud native, scalable architectures
•Drive engineering excellence: coding standards, peer reviews, CI/CD, automated testing
•Build reusable components, shared services, and platform capabilities
•Ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and observability across all engineered systems

Systems Integrations & Interoperability
•Own enterprise integration platforms (iPaaS, API gateway, FHIR server, HL7 engine)
•Lead development of APIs, event-driven services, and integration endpoints
•Ensure interoperability across EMR, RCM, ERP, HRIS, CRM, digital tools, labs, imaging, and external partners
•Implement and govern standards: HL7, FHIR, X12, REST, event streaming
•Ensure integration reliability, monitoring, and rapid issue resolution

Platform Engineering
•Build and maintain internal platforms for identity, integration, DevOps, and automation
•Enable self-service capabilities for development, testing, and deployment
•Partner with Infrastructure & Cloud to optimize cloud environments and developer tooling
•Own platform performance, scalability, and cost optimization
DevOps, CI/CD & Engineering Automation
•Lead DevOps strategy and adoption across engineering teams
•Maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and environment provisioning
•Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) and GitOps practices
•Ensure consistent configuration, security, and performance across environments

Security, Compliance & Governance
•Partner with Cybersecurity to embed secure engineering practices
•Ensure APIs and integrations follow identity, access, and encryption standards
•Support HIPAA, SOC, HITRUST, and audit requirements
•Maintain engineering governance, API lifecycle management, and architectural compliance

Modernization & Transformation
•Lead modernization of legacy applications, integrations, and platforms
•Drive cloud migration, API enablement, and event-driven architecture adoption
•Partner with business and product leaders to deliver scalable, future-ready solutions
•Evaluate emerging technologies and incorporate them into the engineering roadmap

Cross-Functional Leadership
•Partner with: Clinical Systems, Revenue & Enterprise, Data & Analytics, Ai & Automation, and Cybersecurity
•Provide engineering and integration resources to major programs and initiatives

Team Leadership & Talent Development
•Build and lead high-performing engineering, architecture, and integration teams
•Develop engineering career paths, training programs, and technical leadership
•Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required Skills & Experience

•12+ years of experience in software engineering, enterprise architecture, or systems integration
•7+ years leading engineering or architecture teams in complex environments
•Deep expertise in cloud‑native engineering, microservices, APIs, event‑driven architecture
•Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability (HL7, FHIR, X12) preferred
•Proven experience modernizing legacy systems and building scalable platforms
•Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

•Prior leadership in a healthcare provider, payer, or health tech organization
•Healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, X12)
•Event-driven architectures (Kafka, Service Bus, Event Hub)
•Oracle Fusion integrations.
•eClinicalWorks (eCW) ecosystem
•HIPAA data handling requirements knowledge
