Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to serve as a technical subject matter expert responsible for the research, design, development, integration, and testing of complex software systems. This individual will play a critical role in developing software products and applications while partnering closely with hardware, systems, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure overall system performance and functionality.
The ideal candidate will participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, architecture and design, implementation, integration, validation, testing, and deployment. They will apply advanced computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to develop high-quality software solutions that meet operational and business requirements.
This role requires collaboration with engineering stakeholders to evaluate hardware and software interfaces, define operational performance requirements, and contribute to the overall system design. The candidate will be responsible for developing software test procedures, software applications, and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with program cost, schedule, and technical constraints.
As a recognized subject matter expert, this individual will lead large-scale and highly complex project initiatives with minimal direction. They will influence organizational practices, processes, and technical approaches while driving continuous improvement efforts that result in measurable business impact. Additionally, they will contribute to product strategy, support operational planning, and provide technical guidance that enhances organizational capabilities and software performance.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional technical depth, project leadership experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization. They will be expected to drive innovation, improve engineering processes, and deliver scalable software solutions that support critical business objectives.

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
Extensive experience throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, and deployment
Strong software design and development experience for complex software systems and applications
Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, including hardware and systems engineering groups
Experience developing software test procedures, validation plans, and technical documentation
Strong project leadership experience managing large, complex technical initiatives with minimal oversight
Ability to estimate project scope, cost, schedules, and technical requirements
Subject matter expertise in software engineering best practices and methodologies
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and business organizations
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience supporting hardware/software integration efforts
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Experience leading process improvement initiatives and operational transformation projects
Familiarity with embedded systems or mission-critical software environments
Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multiple teams
