Position Overview
We are seeking a Distribution Designer with 3–5 years of experience supporting electric utility distribution projects. This individual will be responsible for utility design, permitting coordination, field investigations, and preparation of construction-ready distribution packages for overhead and underground electrical systems throughout Lee County and the surrounding Southwest Florida region.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing distribution design work for utility providers, engineering firms, telecommunications providers, municipalities, land development projects, or infrastructure improvement programs.
Responsibilities
Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems in support of new construction, service upgrades, relocations, and system improvement projects.
Perform field visits to gather existing conditions, verify plant locations, and identify constructability concerns.
Develop construction drawings, work orders, staking sheets, and bill of materials.
Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, contractors, developers, and property owners throughout project execution.
Support permitting, easement acquisition, right-of-way coordination, and environmental reviews as required.
Interpret utility standards, design guidelines, and applicable engineering requirements.
Utilize GIS, utility design software, and CAD platforms to develop project deliverables.
Review project costs, material requirements, and labor estimates.
Ensure designs comply with applicable safety practices, utility standards, and local regulations.
Support project managers in meeting schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
Required Qualifications
3–5 years of distribution design experience within utility, telecommunications, civil infrastructure, land development, or related industries.
Experience preparing construction drawings and design packages.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plats, surveys, and utility records.
Experience performing field investigations and site walks.
Strong communication and coordination skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Lee County and surrounding areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting electric utility distribution projects.
Experience with overhead and underground power distribution design.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, ArcGIS, or utility design platforms.
Experience with utility permitting and right-of-way coordination.
Knowledge of NESC standards and utility construction practices.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, GIS, Surveying, or related field.
