Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Research Network Engineer IV to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of advanced research infrastructure. This role is pivotal in building scalable, secure, and high-performance network solutions tailored to research environments. The engineer will collaborate with researchers, IT teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and compliance with evolving standards.

Responsibilities:

- Design and optimize LAN architecture for high-speed research data transfers

- Implement secure data center and cloud connectivity
Collaborate on wireless network solutions for research environments

- Support grant documentation and planning for future network needs

- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance using tools like PerfSonar

- Maintain detailed documentation and generate performance reports

- Lead and mentor junior network staff

- Contribute to broader network initiatives beyond research-specific tasks

Required Skills & Experience

Experience in research network LAN design and implementation

Familiarity with NIST compliance standards

Expertise in network monitoring tools like PerfSonar

Strong documentation and reporting skills

Ability to collaborate with researchers and cross-functional teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with cloud connectivity and data center integration

Wireless network design for research environments

Grant support experience (documentation and planning)

Experience working in research hospitals or on government contracts

Exposure to high-speed research networking and grant-funded projects
