Job Description

Insight global is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Protection & Controls Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of complex engineered systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Essential Functions:

Design and Engineering:
Lead the design of engineered systems of the largest size and highest complexity.
Conduct preliminary and detailed design, including budgetary estimates.
Specify equipment, evaluate proposals, and manage requisitioning.
Perform engineering calculations to ensure safety and performance.
Acquire on-site measurements and data for design and performance evaluation.
Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
Review completed designs for adequacy and documentation.
Project Monitoring and Compliance:
Act as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude.
Interpret complex plans and specifications to ensure project design requirements are met.
Maintain familiarity with engineering and construction codes, ensuring compliance.
Prepare and monitor complex construction schedules for timely project completion.
Direct changes to work based on differing site conditions.
Conduct on-site design or investigation work to ensure contractor methods are adequate.
Evaluate and approve contractor invoices and inspect equipment for installation.
Economic Analysis and Reporting:
Perform complex economic analyses of engineering alternatives.
Prepare reports and feasibility studies for management review.
Serve as project engineer or project manager on assigned projects.
Promote efficient information flow and maintain accurate records.
Professional Development and Supervision:
Stay informed of current developments in the field.
Assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel.
Provide direct supervision to staff designers, CADD technicians, and field personnel.
Technical Skills and Client Relations:
Possess strong technical and engineering design/planning skills.
Demonstrate proficiency in computer and financial/project management.
Participate in marketing efforts and maintain client relationships.
Prepare and review reports on power system engineering studies.
Analyze results and develop conclusions on studied problems.
Maintain a personal study program to enhance technical and analytical skills.
Independent and Collaborative Work:
Work independently based on general instructions from Project Manager or Supervisor.
Maintain a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
Keep supervision informed of project status relative to expectations.

Required Skills & Experience

Engineering degree (Power Systems preferred) or in related field from an accredited university.
4 + years of experience of protection and controls substation experience
IEC 61850 or Modbus experience is preferred
