Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Shipfitter to join one of our large shipbuilding clients in Jacksonville, FL. This position is responsible for providing ship fitting skills for repairs to ships and boats in the US Navy, US Coast Guard, MSC and commercial vessels. Tis is 100% on-site work in Jacksonville, FL. This position will require accessing the ship with the capability to lift up to 50 lbs. Qualified candidates will need to work at all heights (high and low), operate in confined spaces and in inclement weather conditions.

Day-to-Day:
- Measures and removes steel and/or aluminum components. Fabricates and reinstalls these components at the gap tolerance for the welders.
- Tack welds metal parts in place for the welders.
- Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedge or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Dismantles metal assemblies or cuts scrap metal, using thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torch or plasma-arc equipment.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3 + years of experience as a welder
- Experience working on structural repairs with steel and aluminum
- High school diploma
- Must be able to pass a MIL STD 248D certification test prior to being considered for hire.
- Working knowledge of the NAVSEA Standard Items and other regulatory bodies such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Weld Certificates from technical school preferred
