Job Description

A large nonprofit client of Insight Global is looking for a Director of Accounting to join their team. They will lead all accounting, transactional financial functions and reporting related to the programs that client and its affiliates administer. The Director will work with the Controller to ensure that that the organization has the systems, procedures and internal controls in place to protect the assets of the programs to produce highly accurate, reliable and timely financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP). The Director will work closely with program leaders and their staff to educate them regarding financial and accounting procedures and to explore how the department can support program operations.

Essential Functions

* Oversees the day to day activities for program accounting functions, which includes collaborating with the Director of Accounting and the program accounting staff on month-end closing, reconciliations, cash flow projections, and financial statement preparation.

* Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote positive and supportive work environment.

* Establishes and maintains effective internal controls and safeguards for the organization's and programs' assets, program funds and program expenditures.

* Oversees all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems related to programs ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

* Manages the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.

* Establishes major economic objectives and policies for program accounting, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient and furnishes external reports as necessary; prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.

* Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipates future legislation; enforces adherence to requirements; files financial reports; advises management on needed actions.

* Hires, trains and retains competent accounting staff while leveraging strengths; clarifies roles and responsibilities to develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals; maintains job results of the accounting staff by coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results while providing mentoring and counseling to staff.

* Coordinates and manages all audit activity by providing information to external auditors.

* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's in Finance or Accounting
10+ years of accounting experience
5+ years in a management role
