Job Description

As a Journeyman Naval Architect, you will be responsible for engineering, designing, and developing shipbuilding specifications, drawings, and program documents for the US Coast Guard Boat Acquisition Program at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. Your role will include conducting technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations to ensure sound design and compliance with industry and Government criteria. You will also evaluate weight implications of planned engineering changes and perform hydrostatic calculations and assessments. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop shipbuilding specifications, drawings, and program documents for the US Coast Guard Boat Acquisition Program.
Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations.
Ensure designs comply with industry and Government criteria.
Evaluate weight implications of engineering changes.
Perform hydrostatic calculations and assessments.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

Education/Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering; preference for candidates with a related master's degree.
Degrees in Ocean, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering may be accepted with a minimum of two years of experience with marine structures.
At least 3 years of experience in vessel design, construction, and repair, with a focus on marine engineering/naval architecture.
Experience in the design of high-speed planning craft is highly desirable.
Minimum of 2 years of experience with structural calculations for ships or other waterborne structures.
Experience in detailed design and analysis of marine structures outside of an academic setting.
