Job Description
A Large federal scientific organization is looking for an Accountant to join their team for 4 months in Boulder, CO. The Accountant will report to the Controller/Assistant Controller, and be on a team of 7 and play a crucial role in accounting processes as we approach fiscal year end 9/30. Candidates will need to have experience with complex balance sheet reconciliations. Experience working with a federal non-profit (understanding contracts, expenses in government) is a huge plus. Responsibilities include:
• Balance sheet reconciliations and reporting for sponsor contracts, including cleanup, accruals. This job is NOT heavy in preparation of financial statements or variance analysis
• Assist in cash receipt application and recording deposits (month end is primarily on a cash basis)
• Sponsor/3rd party billing - monitoring and balancing major awards, preparing and reviewing financial reports and reconciliations, preparing and entering journal entries related to awards
• Contracts: Checking on period of performance, verifying accuracy of expenses for projects, basic understanding of accrual process
• Transaction processing, data entry, and getting journal entries in place
• Additional duties may include preparation of sales tax reporting and filing, various reports and research as assigned

Required Skills & Experience
BS in Accounting +5 years OR no degree + 15+ years' accounting experience
Experience with complex balance sheet reconciliations
Experience with Sponsor/3rd party billing (customer invoicing), ideally with a federal organization
Experience contributing accruals to Month End Close
Knowledge of GAAP
Working knowledge of Government Accounting regulations (ex. FAR, 2 CFR 200)
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
