Insight Global is seeking a Sr. Backend Software Engineer (Video Engineering) for a leading streaming and entertainment technology client. This engineer will join a highly visible Video Infrastructure team responsible for the systems powering every video stream delivered to customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in distributed systems, backend architecture, cloud-native development, and scalable data pipelines. While video experience is highly valued, the client is prioritizing exceptional software engineering fundamentals, architectural ownership, and leadership capabilities over niche media expertise. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on large-scale streaming infrastructure, work on cutting-edge video delivery technology, collaborate cross-functionally across product and engineering teams, and help shape the future of television and digital media experiences. This is a fully remote role.
Estimated role focus:
~30% video-related work
~30% backend infrastructure/services
~40% architecture, planning, design, and general engineering responsibilities
Day to Day:
- Design, implement, deploy, and monitor the next generation of the video streaming pipeline (in-house + open source).
- Build scalable, resilient data pipelines for ingesting video and analytics events using distributed, micro-services architecture.
- Partner with video delivery, ad ops, and data science to measure and optimize every aspect of delivery and viewer QoE.
- Drive improvements to reliability, performance, latency, and security of the streaming platform.
- Evaluate and develop video encoding technologies to improve quality and reduce CDN delivery costs

Required Skills & Experience
- 5 to 8 years of software engineering
o building scalable distributed systems, backend platforms, and data pipelines
o building high-availability, high-throughput backend services and RESTful APIs
o modern software deployment technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
- Senior Level engineering experience with architectural / technical ownership and leadership
o Self-starter with ability to wear multiple hate in smaller organization
- Experience with Golang OR strong object-oriented development experience in Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, C++, or similar languages
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience with video/media technologies is preferred, including streaming, transcoding, ingestion, or delivery systems.
- Experience with HLS, MPEG-DASH, fMP4, CMAF, MPEG-TS, SRT, or other streaming protocols
- Experience with OTT video packaging and DRM solutions.
- Familiarity with Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI)
