Job Description

Our client in Los Alamitos is seeking a medical scribe. The medical scribe will work closely with their surgeons and assist in various clinical operations. These include documentation of history and physical findings in the electronic medical record systems, requesting orders, accurate documentation of clinical procedures and services, as well as reflecting appropriate diagnoses for each visit. This position requires a high level of detail while working at a fast pace in a high-volume clinic. A strong candidate must be a team player, able to learn quickly, multitask and maintain a professional and positive demeanor with the surgeons, staff, and patients.
This job is ideal for those looking to gain clinical experience and apply to professional health programs such as MD/DO and NP/PA. An applicant with prior clinical experience is desirable, as well as a strong foundation in medical terminology and anatomy. Orthopedic experience is favored.

Primary responsibilities:
- Assist physicians in electronic charting by creating an accurate patient history based on patient-physician interactions, and documenting the physical exam based on a physician’s dictation.
- Assist in patient flow by directing patients to scheduling, imaging, external referrals, and ensuring that clinical services are completed.
- Check charts for completeness to assure appropriate and timely billing.

Required Skills & Experience

- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective and diplomatic communication between patients, family, and medical team.
- Ability to perform under pressure, frequent interruptions, and distractions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Organize and track multiple requests and follow through in a timely manner.
- Technical proficiency with computer programs and typing speed of 70+ wpm.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology with an ability and willingness to learn quickly.
- Maintain professionalism in the presence of patients, their families, visitors, and co-workers.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Orthopedic experience
- Prior clinical experience is desirable, as well as a strong foundation in medical terminology and anatomy
