Job Description

The Mechatronics Engineer will support Nordson’s Pathfinding Group in evaluating and developing emerging technologies through hands-on testing and proof-of-concept initiatives. This role works closely with cross-functional teams across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to assess system performance and guide design decisions.

Responsibilities
Support testing and validation efforts for new technologies and proof-of-concept initiatives
Collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive informed design decisions
Assist in the design and integration of mechatronic systems, including microcontrollers, sensors, and embedded software
Partner with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, and software) to evaluate system performance and functionality
Troubleshoot technical issues and adapt engineering approaches to effectively solve problems
Support component selection based on performance, specifications, and reliability requirements
Assist in evaluating vendor capabilities and identifying appropriate components
Contribute innovative ideas and technical feedback to enhance system design and overall performance

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
0–4 years of experience (including internships, co-ops, or relevant academic project work)
Hands-on experience in lab environments, academic projects, or internship settings
Programming experience with languages such as Python, C, or C++
Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with robotics, drones, or other electromechanical systems (including academic projects or competitions)
Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or LabVIEW
Exposure to hardware and software integration across mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems
Foundational understanding of AI or machine learning concepts
Experience working on proof-of-concept or R&D-focused projects
Ability to independently troubleshoot and propose creative technical solutions
