Job Description

We are seeking a Materials Engineer (Generalist) to support the development and reliability of next-generation AR/VR devices. This role is hands-on and lab-focused, with an emphasis on materials characterization, coatings, and materials reliability/durability. The ideal candidate has broad materials knowledge, strong laboratory skills, and experience working with polymers, plastics, and metals in a product development environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform materials characterization and failure analysis to support AR/VR hardware development
- Support the development, testing, and evaluation of coatings for performance, durability, and reliability
- Conduct materials reliability and durability assessments, including environmental and stress testing
- Prepare and analyze samples using chemical cross-sectioning techniques
- Utilize characterization tools such as SEM imaging, optical microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify materials issues and propose solutions
- Document results and communicate findings clearly to engineering and product teams

Required Skills & Experience

- Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on lab experience with materials characterization and instrumentation
- General experience working with plastics, polymers, and metals
- Experience or strong familiarity with Chemical cross-sectioning, SEM imaging, Optical microscopy and/or Fluorescence spectroscopy
- Understanding of materials reliability, durability, and performance testing
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a lab setting and collaboratively within a team

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with ellipsometry and/or reflectometry techniques
- Prior experience supporting consumer electronics, AR/VR, or advanced hardware systems
- Exposure to thin films or advanced coating technologies
