Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of next-generation non-intrusive inspection systems for high-security applications. This role is part of a fast-paced engineering team responding to evolving requirements, with a focus on delivering robust, scalable solutions for both stationary and mobile platforms.
You will play a critical role in taking systems from concept (“pencil sketch”) through full production release, working cross-functionally with electrical and systems engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
• Design electromechanical systems from concept through production release
• Collaborate with systems and science teams to translate requirements into mechanical designs
• Own mechanical design of:
• Enclosures (NEMA/industrial)
• Structural frames and assemblies
• Tooling and subsystem packaging
• Develop and refine system architectures in coordination with electrical engineering (block diagrams → mechanical integration)
• Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and complete design packages using SolidWorks (Windchill environment)
• Perform and/or support:
• Thermal analysis
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Structural and environmental validation
• Define and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and configuration data
• Drive design through formal review processes and release to production
• Support configuration management activities:
• Revision control
• Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Orders (ECO), and Notices (ECN)
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., CE for international deployment)
• Partner closely with electrical engineers to integrate wiring, sensors, and system components into cohesive assemblies
• Support both new product development and sustaining engineering for deployed systems

System Environment
• Large-scale inspection systems (stationary and mobile) used in high-security environments
• Equipment includes X-ray systems, sensors, and integrated hardware platforms
• Designs must account for:
• Outdoor environments
• Heavy machinery and hydraulics
• Safety-critical operation (potential life/safety implications)

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (mid-level to senior considered)
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (experience with Windchill or similar PLM systems preferred)
• Demonstrated experience designing complex electromechanical systems
• Strong understanding of:
• Statics, dynamics, and heat transfer
• Materials selection (steel, aluminum, alloys)
• Manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, fabrication)
• Experience with:
• Design documentation (drawings, BOMs, CAD models)
• GD&T per ANSI Y14.5
• Engineering change processes (ECR/ECO/ECN)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with inspection systems, X-ray equipment, or radiation-related hardware
• (e.g., shielding, collimation, compliance considerations)
• Familiarity with CE compliance and global product certification
• Experience designing for harsh or outdoor environments
• Background in vehicle systems, hydraulics, or heavy equipment
• Experience with corrosion protection and finishing techniques
• Hands-on prototyping or field support experience

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
