Job Description
We are starting a new, scholarship-based school dedicated to providing specialized education
for neurodivergent children, particularly those with moderate to severe Autism Spectrum
Disorder. Our school’s first class will initially include up to five kindergarten-aged students (5-7
years old) supported by a collaborative, interdisciplinary team comprised of:
● Head Teacher
● Assistant Teachers
● Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs; current open position)
● Occupational Therapist (OT)
● Head of School
● Clinical Care Coordinator
Our school is founded on a commitment to providing individualized, high-quality education and
support for neurodivergent children. We are aiming to foster a nurturing, inclusive learning
environment with a 1:1 student-to-adult ratio so that we may best serve our students' individual
needs. Although we will not be accredited in our first year, we are dedicated to establishing a
strong foundation for future accreditation and long-term growth.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join
our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the communication and
social-emotional development of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This position
requires a passionate professional committed to providing evidence-based, individualized
speech and language services within a collaborative educational environment. Our goal is to

create a nurturing and supportive environment that provides individualized treatment and
education for our students.
Responsibilities:
● Conducting comprehensive communication assessments for multiple students.
● Developing and implementing individualized communication plans for students.
● Conduct weekly language samples.
● Deliver direct and indirect therapy services tailored to each individual student.
● Address areas such as functional language development, social communication,
pragmatic language, receptive and expressive language, articulation, fluency, and
augmentative and alternative communication systems.
● Work closely with the Clinical Care Coordinator, Head Teacher, Assistant Teachers
and Aides, and OT to integrate communication goals into the daily curriculum and
promote generalization of skills across settings.
● Collaborate closely with the Head Teacher on intervention delivery.
● Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages language
growth.
● Provide training to Head Teacher, Assistant Teachers, and Aides to ensure continuity
of communication treatment.
● Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
related to autism spectrum disorder.
● Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to provide
updates on student progress and address any concerns.
● Maintain accurate and complete records and reports.

Required Skills & Experience
Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Speech and Language Pathology.
● ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA).
● Current and valid California license to practice Speech and Language Pathology.
● Deep understanding of ASD characteristics and effective intervention strategies.
● Experience working with children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD, including
those with significant communication challenges, co-occurring intellectual disabilities,
and challenging behaviors.
● Knowledge and experience with positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS) and
behavior management strategies relevant to students with severe ASD, including
functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
● In-depth knowledge and practical experience with a wide range of AAC systems,
including low tech (e.g., picture exchange communication systems), mid-tech (e.g.,
voice output devices), and high-tech (e.g., dedicated communication devices with
speech-generating software).
● Ability to conduct comprehensive AAC assessments, program devices, train students
and staff on AAC use, and integrate AAC into all aspects of the school day.

● Expertise in developing and implementing Functional Communication Training to
replace maladaptive behaviors with appropriate communication skills.
● Strong understanding and experience with evidence-based interventions for social
communication deficits in severe ASD, such as structured teaching, social narratives,
visual supports, and peer-mediated interventions.
● Awareness of how sensory processing differences can affect communication and
behavior in students with ASD, and the ability to collaborate with OTs to address these
needs.
● Experience or knowledge in assessing and treating feeding/swallowing disorders.
● Ability to conduct thorough speech and language assessments for students with ASD,
utilizing both standardized and criterion-referenced tools, as well as informal
observations and parent/teacher interviews.
● Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data to monitor student progress, adjust
intervention strategies, and report on outcomes.
● Mastery of various therapeutic techniques adapted for students with severe ASD,
including discrete trial training, naturalistic environmental teaching, pivotal response
treatment, and visual schedules.
● Ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations with appropriate training.
● Exceptional ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including educators,
OTs, behavioral specialists, clinical care coordinators, psychologists, and
administrators.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with parents and
caregivers, provide training, and involve families in the therapeutic process.
● Capacity to train and support school staff in implementing communication strategies,
using AAC, and fostering a communication-rich environment.
● Strong advocate for the communication needs of children with severe ASD.
● Ability to perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, running,
reaching, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing,
and pulling.
