Job Description

In partnership with the Executive Director, the Comptroller is responsible for management of the Fund’s financial activity, including tax and financial processes, budget and cost controls, financial analysis and ensuring accurate and reliable data necessary for business operations and financial compliance.
• Administer bi-weekly staff payroll, monthly benefit reconciliation and reporting, quarterly tax returns and year-end reports.
• Coordinate and partner with Director, Finance on annual reconciliation of Fiscal Year End.
• Review Monthly/Quarterly financials with Director, Finance for presentation to Executive Director.
• Review cash flow to project funding requirements for disbursements bi-weekly, monthly and during distribution season.
• Manage good working relationships with banks and financial institutions.
• Coordinate with Director, Finance to prepare departmental budget requests and other data for review by Executive Director for annual budgeting process.
• Review monthly variance reports.
• Co-administer and review staff benefit plans, coordinating with Executive Management and serve as a Trustee of staff benefit plans. Manage financial transactions with third party administrators.
• Support coordination of interim and year-end financial audits for Accounting department, staff and distribution payrolls.
• In coordination with the Executive Director and Executive Management, create and review the annual budget.
• Analyze and determine financial data to prepare for annual participant distribution, omissions distribution and interim check re-issues. Perform spot checks of written checks.
• Respond to third-party inquiries about the Fund’s business and economic standing.
• Prepare financial census information required by city/county and national agencies such as City Business Licensing/Tax, LA County Assessor’s office, Board of Equalization and similar entities.
• Update the tax tables, coordinate projects concerning both staff and distribution payroll. Coordinate with US Federal/State and Canadian tax agencies.
• Establish and maintain a system for all internal accounting controls and financial reporting.
• Provide recommendations to Executive Director and Director, Finance on policy changes and updates to remain current with operational efficiency and organizational best practices.
• Keep current on changes to tax regulations.
• Serve as back up to Director Finance in his/her absence.

Required Skills & Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, with (4-7+ years) of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the entertainment industry
· Knowledge of NetSuite, ACH, fixed assets accounting preferred
· Knowledge of auditing and budgeting processes
· Must be well organized, detail oriented, and a self-starter
· Strong/expert level proficiency with MS Word and Excel and the ability to scrutinize the details
