Job Description
The Trade Compliance Specialist (“TCS”) will create, implement, facilitate, and enforce Company trade compliance policy and practices in accordance with Corporate (UK parent company) policy under the direction of the Director of Product Engineering and Senior Operations’ Corporate Director of Trade Compliance (“DTC”). The TCS will develop a deep understanding of our client's products and systems in order to perform product classification; ensure the trade compliance process is robust and reaches all required areas of the organization; promote trade compliance visibility and transparency through the use of technology, internal metrics and audits; assist Company stakeholders in navigating the compliance landscape; perform regular training of all employees tailored to each department’s needs and involvement with trade compliance; and interact with and support the DTC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The TCS must be a self-motivator, work independently, and be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
● Possess an understanding and working knowledge of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) including anti-boycott regulations, sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customs Regulations (CR), and the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR)
● Perform ITAR/EAR product and technology classification as well as HTS/Schedule B for import and export
● Complete applications for export and technology licenses, DSPs, and TAAs with assistance from the DTC
● Prepare CJs and CCATS with assistance from the DTC
● Oversee and manage transactional compliance, process implementation, and enforcement across the Company for trade compliance import and export transactions
● Act as the Company liaison for all trade compliance related inquiries
● Produce and analyze reports from ERP and various other Company information systems applicable to TC analysis for classifications, free trade agreements, valuation, and others
● Manage the Visual Compliance dataset of customers, suppliers, programs, products, licenses, and associated metadata
● Participate in the business quotation and proposal process to ensure trade compliance is reviewed and analyzed before new project acceptance and execution
● Ensure that licensing and classification needs are anticipated at the earliest practical stage to prevent undue delay and business impact (in cooperation with the PE Manager and other organizational leadership)
● Provide oversight of the export compliance relationship with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other third parties representing Company export and import interests
● Proactively manage trade compliance risks to the Company to prevent violations, while maintaining the highest ethical standards, regardless of internal or external pressures
● Create customized training materials and conduct regular trade compliance training for all Company departments involved in trade compliance
● Create, maintain, and implement technology control plans including coverage for visitors, contractors, suppliers, and company travel
● Perform internal audits and support Division level audits and external audits
● Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, including the Senior plc Code of Conduct
● Other duties as assigned by the Project Engineering Manager and DTC

Salary Range: $90-120k

Required Skills & Experience
Education and/or Experience:
● A college degree is preferred
● At least 3 years of hands-on experience in the field of export/trade compliance and preferably in the aerospace industry in a similar role
● Experience obtaining and operating under an EAR technology license including SNAP-R entry
● Experience performing CCL product classifications, preferably Category 9
● Experience in HTS/Schedule B classification
● Experience in international shipping documentation and customs procedures
● Experience in the aerospace trade compliance environment is strongly preferred
● Experience in direct communication with BIS/DDTC personnel is preferred
● Experience in trade compliance policy and process writing and implementation
● Experience with license exception STA is a bonus
● Experience with authoring and requesting CJs/CCATS is a bonus

Required and Preferred Skills:
● Workplace Communication and Interaction: The TCS must have the capability and experience to interact and work with colleagues in a pleasant, team-spirited, and diplomatic manner. The TCS must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable and confident in making trade compliance presentations to employee groups from all disciplines and levels.
● Reasoning Ability: The TCS must be able to review, understand and analyze highly detailed policy documentation related to trade compliance. The TCS must be able to not merely detect potential trade compliance problems or concerns, but also determine and apply sound creative and compliant reasoning to arrive at solutions that support both business and compliance needs.
● Mathematical Skills: The TCS must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
● Additional Abilities: The TCS must have strong computer skills, including experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel programs. Experience with ERP systems, compliance systems, and project/task organization systems is strongly preferred. The TCS must be extremely well-organized to ensure the tracking and traceability of the Company’s trade compliance obligations.
