Job Description
A large automotive industry is seeking an innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong expertise in HVAC and Process Piping to join their dynamic mechanical design team in Fremont, CA. This full-time, onsite role within the Bay Area Infrastructure (BAI) group emphasizes forward-thinking mechanical design, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on implementation. You will be responsible for delivering scalable, code-compliant, and constructible solutions that support the companies fast-paced development for Autopilot, Energy, Vehicle/Semi, AI, Robotics, and Cell Manufacturing. You will help design and deploy mechanical systems that directly enable innovation while advancing their mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do
- Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of mechanical engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for a wide range of mechanical and process systems
- Responsible for developing detailed specifications, sequence of operations, design packages for HVAC, plumbing and hydronic systems for permitting and construction under senior staff supervision
- Work with various manufacturing, construction, and facilities stakeholders to understand end-user needs and deliver results that meet the collective team’s needs
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity in fast-paced environment
- Work independently, apply first principles thinking to resolve design issues creatively and thoroughly coordinating design with other disciplines
- Perform capacity and risk analysis for large capital infrastructure
- Create flexible designs that can meet evolving criteria over time and ability to challenge and justify design decisions to leadership
- Synthesize technical information into a well-designed slide deck and have the communication skills to present the data to leadership
- Influence various teams without direct reporting structure
Pay Range for this role is: $44 - $68 per hour

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5 years of experience in HVAC or Process Systems design experience and familiarity with ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards, SMACNA Standards
- Experience with at least 80% of the following: Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Dust Collectors, Heat Exchangers (shell/tube, plate/frame, brazed fin), Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Compressors, process gas/fluid systems, Air Handling Units, Terminal Units, VRF, Fans / Blowers, Pumps, Control Valves and Instrumentation, Heat Recovery Systems, Hazardous Exhaust, and Waste Water Treatment
- Experience with projects with industrial application cooling tower systems, offices, high tech/R&D and industrial
- Proficient with various computer programs such as HVAC load calculations, Revit and Bluebeam
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with International Codes Council (ICC), Suite of Codes (codes including Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy Conservation, Fuel Gas, and Fire Codes) and California specific Title 24 codes
- Construction administration experience including site observation visits and review of RFIs, Submittals, and Shop Drawings
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineering in training (EIT) certification
