Job Description
A leading research institute at a large Los Angeles Higher Education client is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to join their team.
This is a full-stack web developer position. Most of the time will be spent on coding, both for the front-end (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and the back-end (Java/Java Server Pages/Java Servlets/Tomcat web server) and database (SQL). Coding will include developing new features, documentation, QA/testing, fixing bugs, improving code quality etc. These are not mutually exclusive tasks.
When developing a new feature, you will discuss design choices, come up with prototypes if required, or if it's straightforward and simple, just develop it. Code and functionality will be continuously tested as it's developed. Bugs will require fixing when bugs are discovered.
Expected to set up and have the development environment on their computer/laptop. This includes Java, Tomcat server, MySQL etc. We use Git for version control. You will also be expected to communicate progress, problems etc. effectively.
Pay Range: $35-$55/Hr

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
• 3-10 years of full stack Software Engineering experience (full software development lifecycle)
• Experienced in developing web applications, especially single-page web applications using AJAX
• Understand networks, browsers etc. and keep up-to date with evolving technology (eg: HTML-HTML5, JavaScript standards etc.)
• Experience doing testing, performance improvements, bug fixing
• Experience with:
○ Java (Java, Java Server Pages, Servlets)
○ Tomcat web server
○ Building applications with HTML/CSS/JavaScript (jQuery, other JavaScript libraries, AJAX)
○ Able to hand code HTML/CSS
○ MySQL - SQL, database design and development
○ Git
○ Experience with linux/unix, Windows (or strong knowledge)
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Knowledge of other programming languages (Golang, Python etc), shell scripts, other web servers (Apache, Go), Linux system administration
