Job Description

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting accounting operations across multiple branches and corporate departments. This position is responsible for executing monthly close tasks, analyzing financial data, and providing support to field teams and management.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform monthly close activities including journal entries, adjustments, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Support accounting supervisors with review processes and system enhancements.
• Analyze profit and loss variances and respond to inquiries from regional managers.
• Train branch managers on accounting procedures and incentive compensation.
• Provide support and guidance on financial tools and systems.
• Manage customer service inquiries via Zendesk with prompt and thorough responses.
• Collaborate with field and corporate teams to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
• Identify and recommend process improvements and internal controls.
• Mentor junior accountants and assist with month-end reporting.
• Prepare ad hoc reports for management.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles including prepaid, accruals, intercompany accounts, and general ledger.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience in the mortgage industry and sales compensation is a plus.
• Proficiency in Loan Vision software and advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
• Ability to interpret compensation contracts.
