Job Description
The Accounting Manager oversees the Fund’s Accounting Team and is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting processes. This key leadership role has responsibility for both the Fund administrative accounting functions, as well as those related to the processing and distribution of residual payments to Fund Participants.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise the accounting staff and ensure accountability by providing effective leadership, coaching, and support
• Review and approve day-to-day accounting activities through various financial transaction types such as journal entries, bills, bill payments, new vendor records, positive pay exceptions, check issues, or other various activities
• Manage the monthly and fiscal year-end financial close process by ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, journal entries and audit schedules are thoroughly reviewed, cash reconciliations are completed, and applicable reports are prepared
• Monitor bank transactions and budget compliance daily and keep Sr. Director, Finance informed as appropriate
• Handle all accounting related operations to drive successful residual distributions, reissuance of unclaimed monies, and the preparation/remittance of payroll taxes along with quarterly reporting to various agencies throughout the year
• Review and approve employment verifications for Fund participants
• Oversee garnishment process of both employees and Fund participants
• Assist in the collection/preparation of financial data for purposes of tracking, analysis, and/or audit
• Partner with the Comptroller on key accounting functions, financial audits and Tax amendments
• Coordinate Accounting staff’s testing and adoption of new tools or systems; provide recommendations to Sr. Director, Finance and COO for necessary enhancements and configurations
• Prepare bi-weekly employee timekeeping records, handle employee benefits administration/audits in coordination with HR and the Comptroller
• Supply written reports or other accounting/financial analyses as requested
• Assist Sr. Director, Finance and Fund Executive Director with annual fiscal year budget preparation
• Provide recommendations on accounting policy changes and updates to remain current with operational efficiency and compliance with GAAP.
• Document SOP’s and update them as needed to address changing business needs
• Act as a liaison to third parties and agencies, as well as other department heads as needed
• Serve as back-up to Comptroller or the Sr. Director, Finance in their absence

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
• 7+ years of full cycle accounting
• 5+years Leadership experience
• 5+ years of experience using ERP software
• 3+ years of experience in Tax reporting to IRS and California
• 3+years of experience in Payroll
• Knowledge of bookkeeping, auditing and fixed assets accounting
• Knowledge of budgeting processes
• Ability to critically analyze financial data and accounting processes
• Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Outlook
• Advanced Excel skills
• Knowledge of banking processes and ACH
• Must be well organized, detail oriented, and a self-starter
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
PREFERRED
• NetSuite and Sage experience
• CPA or CMA certification
