Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Terrestrial Biologist with expertise in botany, rare plant identification, and invasive weed management to support environmental compliance and mitigation efforts for utility construction projects. This role will primarily involve desktop environmental reviews with occasional fieldwork to assess and protect sensitive terrestrial resources.

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct desktop surveys using GIS tools (e.g., Google Earth) to identify potential impacts to rare plants, invasive weeds, and terrestrial wildlife within FERC boundaries.
Support General Environmental Questionnaire (GEQ) reviews to evaluate construction-related environmental risks.
Develop and implement mitigation strategies for terrestrial wildlife and sensitive plant species affected by utility projects.
Manage invasive weed programs, including herbicide/pesticide application where permitted.
Monitor and report on special-status plant occurrences, distribution changes, and habitat conditions.
Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to ensure environmental compliance during project planning and execution.
Prepare detailed environmental reports and documentation for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, or related field.
Demonstrated experience with rare plant surveys, invasive weed management, and botanical assessments.
Familiarity with California flora, particularly Northern California species.
Experience evaluating construction-related impacts to terrestrial wildlife and plant habitats.
Strong understanding of FERC license requirements and environmental compliance protocols

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience conducting nesting bird surveys and implementing protective measures.
Knowledge of environmental permitting and mitigation planning.
Proficiency in GIS tools and desktop mapping applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
