Job Description

The Database Engineer III plays a critical role in database programming, application/operations support, issue resolution, documentation, and departmental support. This position ensures optimal database performance through query tuning, debugging, and data maintenance while collaborating closely with Business Systems Analysts and cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include designing and developing database solutions, supporting production data modifications, analyzing and optimizing database structures, and participating in software project meetings. Additionally, this role requires a deep understanding of functional requirements, software engineering best practices, and data mapping. The engineer will work across Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments, focusing on data provisioning, retention policies, and anonymization techniques. While not a data modeler, they will have strong experience in ETL processes and database interfacing. As a guiding force in database management, they will drive discussions, analyze data, and develop mapping documentation while engaging in operations such as user provisioning and production data management.

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong expertise in Oracle database and either SQL Server or PostgreSQL databases
- Proven experience in query performance tuning and debugging
- Ability to read, write, and optimize SQL procedures, functions, triggers, and stored logic
- Hands-on experience in data mapping, retention policies, and maintenance
- Strong ETL and database interfacing experience
- Thorough knowledge of indexing, triggers, packages, and query plan optimization

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with Python scripting or ETL pipelines
- Familiarity with partitioning and sharding database objects
- Exposure to data provisioning with masking and anonymization
- Understanding of PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) business models and pharmaceutical industry practices
- Strong ability to work in cross-functional global teams and participate in high-level technical discussions
