A Superintendent for Downstream Services, Inc. reports to the Project Manager (PM). The Superintendent is responsible for leading, directing and coordinating the work of field employees, subcontractors, and vendors within their department. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring safety, schedule delivery, quality of work performed and adherence to budget of the project. The Superintendent has supervisory responsibility for the Foreman and field crews. Large scale, multi-department projects may require the Superintendent to coordinate with other departments as directed by the Owners and PMs. The Superintendent may also coordinate specific needs with other departments for specific shared equipment and labor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Oversee and make decisions related to performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and employee staffing.
Oversee work and coordinate project operations. Resolving problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment schedule and all other appropriate matters.
Oversee site safety program as required and ensure compliance with standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
Collaborate with Safety Manager and oversee training of field crews and maintain employee development plans.
Supervise and develop Foreman and field crews, as assigned, including providing input on or completing performance appraisals.
Create schedules and determine sequencing of work. Develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule.
Communicate with owners and engineers in connections with field issues. Investigate and resolve such issues.
Manage the work to ensure that it is installed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents.
Document project field issues that impact budget, quality or schedule, and provide to the project management team.
Assist with review and approval of field time sheets, daily reports, and safety paperwork for compliance.
Manage employee matters with discretion and engage with Human Resources as needed to resolve problems.
Display high level of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations.
Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
May operate equipment including forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, compactors, and lining equipment.
Attend Department Progress Meetings and Scheduling Meetings.
Ability to travel and accommodate night and weekend work as needed.
Identify and suggest possible improvements to procedures.
Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and effectiveness of team within department and share recommendations companywide.
Provide Foreman support and relief of job duties during times of need (e.g., lunch, breaks, illness, vacation).
Other backup duties and responsibilities when Foreman or Project Manager is out of the office.

Minimum of seven (7) years experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of construction means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications.
Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
OSHA 30-hour certification.
