Job Description

Lab Technician: (Rapid Prototyping Technician)

We're looking for a Rapid Prototyping Technician to join the Lab team in developing next-generation hardware products and experiences. As part of the Prototype Engineering Team, the RP Tech will work closely with our CNC Machinist, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and other team members across the Lab while providing broad-based support for model making, prototyping, fixture development, and day-to-day operations within the labs.



Pay Range: 25-30/hr

Required Skills & Experience

3D Printing: Utilize various 3D printing systems to execute part builds, post processing of parts (sanding, polishing, gluing, painting, assembling), trouble-shooting & maintaining machines

Work in a fast-paced fabrication lab setting with multiple competing priorities & deadlines.

Fabrication of functional prototypes, mechanical & electrical assemblies, jigs & fixtures

Regular use of power tools, hand tools, including a wide range of cutting/ grinding/ sanding/ drilling implements, often for extended periods of time.

CNC Support: Provide direct support to the CNC Machinist: maintain milling machine & lathe, preparation of workpiece/ block, machine setup & operation, end mill & stock material inventory management, post-processing of machined parts (deburring, abrasive blasting, tapping, buffing, polishing, assembling)

Laser cutting: Use design files (Adobe Illustrator) and laser cutting software to program laser power & speed settings, generate the laser cutting path, operate & maintain the laser system.

Inventory management, including purchasing & stocking of tools, shop supplies, spare parts, protective gear, etc.

Maintenance & calibration of a wide range of machines & supporting infrastructure in various types of lab environments across multiple facilities.

Act as the team's official point of contact/ host for regular on-site maintenance visits from machine manufacturers, suppliers, & service technicians..

Model & enforce standard safety & security protocols, such as wearing personal protective equipment in the labs and concealing sensitive work pieces.

Handling, storage, & disposal of hazardous waste as well as confidential waste (ex: obsolete 3D printed or machined parts).
