Job Description

An up-and-coming Medical Device Company is seeking a Data Scientist to join their growing team in San Diego. In this position, you will play a critical role in lowering the burden of diabetes through advanced automated insulin delivery systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diabetes, data science, machine learning, and analytics, with a focus on virtual patient simulators. Experience in developing user and product analytics will be a significant advantage. Bachelors in relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline. Proven experience (5+ years) in a data science role with a track record of successful project delivery, including virtual patient simulator development and user/product analytics.

Required Skills & Experience

Virtual Patient Simulator Development:

- Design, develop, and implement virtual patient simulators to evaluate algorithms and changes to algorithms and their impact to diabetes control.

User and Product Analytics:

- Develop and implement strategies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting user and product data.
- Create dashboards and reports to communicate insights and drive data-driven decision-making processes.
- Model Development and Implementation:
- Designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models and algorithms for both virtual patient simulation, product features and user/product analytics.
- Ensure the scalability and efficiency of models in AWS and analytics systems.

Data Governance and Quality:

- Establish and maintain data governance standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data used in virtual patient simulators and analytics.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize data pipelines and storage for simulation and analytics purposes.

Diabetes Domain Knowledge

Bring existing knowledge on the following:
- Diabetes data (glucose readings, insulin dosing, meal intake, and other diabetes data types)
- Common diabetes analytics such as average glucose, glucose standard deviation, time in range, coefficient of variation, hypo and hyperglycemia, basal and bolus total daily dose, etc.
- Clinical working knowledge in the understanding of how carbohydrates, insulin, stress, exercise, and other factors affect glucose levels.
- Ability to quickly find relevant research and literature relating to glucose control using insulin therapy.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with big data technologies and frameworks in AWS.
Knowledge of AWS cloud platform.
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
Previous experience in healthcare or medical simulation.
