An employer is looking for a Research Assistant to join their team in San Diego, CA. The employer is an academic and scientific research institute in the biosciences industry and the Research Assistant will be joining the Compound Management Group. The group assists internal teams and departments by registering and fulfilling various requests of dry and solution-based compound samples. The group coordinates the quality, quantity, location, and transfer of molecules which requires accuracy, organization, and detail-oriented work. This position will work directly with other members of the Compound Management Group to ensure the work of small molecule drug discovery can be executed.
The Research Assistant will, independently and in collaboration with others, perform core tasks to support research driven projects; provide continual analysis of existing workflows; investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures; regularly assist in designing processes; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Transfer compounds between vials and plates
- Weigh compounds using analytical balance and accurately record results
- Solubilize compounds from powder to liquid stock
- Maintain inventory of compounds including information about location, quantity, and quality
- Generate and complete order requests for compounds according to SOPs
- Document, interpret and accurately record data in databases
- Read analytical data from instruments including, but not limited to, single quad LC/MS systems
- Registration of chemical compounds both arriving and departing the lab
- Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot various lab automation including, but not limited to, Tecan and Bravo liquid handlers and Echo acoustic dispensers.
- Devise new or optimize existing strategies to streamline workflows and lead at least one complex project.
- Perform cross-training and onboarding of new CMG members!

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline
- 1-3 years relevant experience
- Experience using laboratory scales and balances to measure mass/weight
- Liquid handling experience is preferred
- Basic computer skills required, including experience with Microsoft Excel & basic file management skills
- Good organizational, record keeping, and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and independently in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented, collaborative, high performance environment
