Job Description

Summary:

The main function of the materials engineer is to execute material quality management programs and evaluate material and tooling performance. The project is very unique, building a product that is coming 5 years out for the current generation, will learn about new technology and will develop a roadmap for creating the product. Deals with material property - AR research project, communicate with vendors twice a week, work with internal processing team, and also works with internal cross function teams and come up with resolutions for situations.



Job Responsibilities:

* Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost.

* Develop materials and study the atomic structure of materials in order to discover new applications for their mechanical, electrical or chemical properties.

* Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure quality.

* Analyze product failure data and lab test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.

* Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.

* Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.

* Plan and implement operations for developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.

Required Skills & Experience

* Basic knowledge of metals, plastics, elastomers, polymer composites, and ceramic materials.

* Knowledge of material degradation mechanisms such as creep, corrosion, and others.

* Experience conducting failure analysis.

* Masters degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field.
