Job Description

* Required: BS in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related natural science academic field from a U.S. accredited college or university.

* Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental restoration, including field work (sample collection, monitoring well installation, remediation system construction, site supervision, inspections/audits), document preparation, laboratory sample analysis and data validation, data evaluation, remedial design, technical writing and editing, stakeholder management, and familiarity with project management processes.

* Experience as primary or major supporting author for CERCLA and RCRA documents.

* Expertise in CERCLA and RCRA requirements, processes, and terminology. Familiarity with other federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, NEPA, Endangered Species Act), guidance, and permitting processes.

* Attention to detail and good organizational skills.

* Experience implementing quality control/quality assurance processes.

* A collaborative attitude and experience in digital collaboration techniques.

* Self-direction and motivation to complete work independently, and confidence to seek input and expertise from others when beneficial.

Existing certifications (or ability to obtain): OSHA-compliant 40-hr HAZWOPER and OSHA-compliant 8-hr HAZWOPER Annual Refresher (as applicable); OSHA-compliant 30-hr Construction Safety; First Aid/CPR/Blood Borne Pathogens; Medical Surveillance; OPSEC Awareness for Military Members, DoD Employees and Contractors; Level 1 Antiterrorism Awareness Training; and iWatch Army

Required Skills & Experience

* Advanced degrees (MS, PhD) and professional registrations (EIT, PE, GIT, PG) are preferred.

* Act as the primary author for Five-Year Review and Periodic Review Reports.

* Leverage CERCLA and RCRA project experience to support development of technical approach and conclusions.

* Develop lines of evidence to support technical conclusions using technical expertise, prior experience, creative thinking, and collaboration.

* Implement internal quality control procedures for documents to promote consistency in content and formatting.

* Coordinate with other contributors (e.g., writers, graphics, field personnel, risk assessors, statisticians).

* Take responsibility for overall quality of documents at each submittal phase (e.g., Draft, Draft Final, Final).

* Complete technical and editorial reviews of documents authored by colleagues to ensure: the correct regulatory framework and terminology are applied; conclusions are supported with sufficient evidence; evaluations consider all potentially applicable and/or relevant and appropriate regulations and to-be-considered guidance; and guidance (both external and internal) are followed with respect to content and formatting.

* Support discussions about technical approach and conclusions with clients, stakeholders, legal counsel, other technical experts, and regulators.

* Regularly review guidance documents (proposed new and updates to existing) and evaluate potential impacts to environmental programs.

* Mentor junior technical staff to develop their technical expertise, writing skills, collaboration strategies, and leadership potential.
