Job Description
A Jewish non-profit organization is looking for an interim Controller who will be reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations. This person would be responsible for providing timely, relevant, and accurate financial information to the school's managers and stakeholders. The Interim Controller will work closely with the Director of School Finance and Operations to ensure the integrity of the accounting processes, systems, and internal control structure; to ensure compliance with key regulatory requirements; to compile, analyze and prepare financial information for the various users of such information; monitor the annual and long-term budget; and to lead the annual audits.
- Oversee general accounting functions, including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Asset and Payroll accounting
- Perform key banking responsibilities on a regular basis and prepare and/or review monthly bank reconciliations
- Oversee the monthly close processes including preparation/review of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations, departmental spending review, and overall financial statement review
- Produce monthly financial statements and reporting package to include but not limited to the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Revenue and Expenditures, Cash Flow, Forecasts, and analytical reports with comparisons to budget and prior periods
- Assist the Director of School Finance and Operations with preparation of the annual budget, long term budget scenarios, and forecast updates
-Meet with department heads quarterly to review spending budgets and forecasts.
- Develop and maintain an annual Business Office calendar including close deadlines, reporting and filing requirements, etc
- Work closely with the ST Finance Department and the Director of Finance & Operations to lead the annual audits
- Develop and maintain key Financial Policies & Procedures manual
- Provide/research technical accounting of GAAP/not- for- profit guidance
- Maintain and manage Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT accounting programs and its integration with all other department
- Drive process and system improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of accounting and operational processes.
- Collaborate with the Temple accounting team for purposes of audit, some elements of the School's accounting, and for reconciliation of endowment and restricted funds
- When applicable, work on bank loans, lines of credit, and grants
-Special projects, as assigned by DFO and/or the Head of School, to meet the school's mission and financial objective
-The Interim Controller will supervise two Staff Accountants
Required Skills & Experience
- 4-5 years of experience in accounting
- 3+ years of experience as a Controller
- Prior experience participating in yearly or bi-yearly audits and interacting with auditors
- Experience reviewing invoices
- Advanced excel experience (V-lookups, H-lookups, pivot tables and formulas)
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- CPA certification
- Background in non-profit environment
- Experience with Blackbaud and AccuFund or similar softwares
