Job Description

Insight Global's client that builds customized, blockchain-based payment solutions is seeking a Director of Merchant Services to sit onsite in San Diego, CA for a full time position. This position will play a pivotal role in managing the company's merchant services department including the underwriting and onboarding functions. The primary responsibility will be to lead and continually improve the entire merchant services operations, ensuring efficient payment processing and exceptional customer service to our merchant clients.



Essential Functions:

* Develop and implement the strategic vision for the merchant services, underwriting & onboarding activities, aligning it with the organization's goals and objectives.

* Provide strategic input to the product organization to build leading edge product platforms for our payments and banking businesses globally.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with merchant partners, payment processors, and acquiring banks to ensure effective collaboration and smooth transaction processing.

* Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to identify and pursue new business opportunities, expand the merchant base, and drive revenue growth.

* Oversee the end-to-end process of merchant underwriting, onboarding, account setup, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

* Monitor and analyze merchant transaction data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process optimization and revenue enhancement.

* Manage relationships with third-party vendors, payment processors, and financial institutions, negotiating contracts and ensuring optimal service levels for the responsible function

* Stay up to date with industry regulations and compliance requirements related to merchant services, and ensure adherence to relevant standards, including PCI-DSS.

* Develop and maintain robust risk management and fraud prevention strategies, working closely with internal teams and external partners to mitigate potential risks.

* Conduct periodic audits and reviews to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance measures.

* Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management, providing insights into merchant services performance, key metrics, and strategic recommendations.

* Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of merchant services operations and identify areas for improvement.

* Develop and manage the department's budget, tracking expenses, forecasting future needs, and providing financial insights to support sound business decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.

* Experience with end to end merchant application, underwriting and onboarding operations.

* Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, such as PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard).

* Experience in merchant services, payment processing, and knowledge of payment industry trends including various payment methods and card networks (Visa, Mastercard, etc.)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

* Experience transforming merchant services from conventional business to mobile app or online based workflows.
