Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Backend Engineer to support a large-scale initiative focused on modernizing and scaling personalized retail experiences across our client’s digital and in-store platforms. This individual will be responsible for designing, building, integrating, testing, validating, and supporting backend services that enable scalable application functionality, real-time event processing, API connectivity, distributed data access, and reliable downstream consumption across cloud-native enterprise environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include translating technical requirements, service contracts, integration patterns, event schemas, data access needs, and business rules into reliable backend solutions; developing and optimizing Java and Spring Boot services, REST APIs, Kafka consumers and producers, and backend integration logic; supporting connectivity across APIs, cloud services, NoSQL databases, data platforms, event streams, and dependent enterprise systems; executing unit, integration, contract, functional, regression, performance, negative-path, and production-readiness testing; and troubleshooting service failures, defects, data inconsistencies, orchestration dependencies, logging, alerting, retries, timeouts, and deployment issues. This person will partner closely with senior engineers, technical leads, architects, QA, DevOps, platform teams, product owners, analysts, and downstream consumers to manage delivery milestones, resolve blockers, document service behavior, validate integration outcomes, and ensure backend workflows are stable, scalable, secure, and ready for production handoff. The ideal candidate will have a strong backend engineering background, experience supporting complex enterprise service environments, and the ability to remain hands-on while driving backend development, integration, testing, validation, optimization, release readiness, and operational support

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. - Experience building backend services that integrate with APIs, Kafka event streams, service contracts, distributed data stores, platform dependencies, monitoring systems, and downstream consumers.
- Hands-on exposure to Kafka consumers, producers, topic integration, message handling, schema validation, failure handling, event troubleshooting, and downstream publishing patterns.
- Working knowledge of NoSQL or distributed data stores, including data access patterns, schema understanding, validation checks, query behavior, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with API testing, integration testing, contract validation, functional testing, regression testing, defect remediation, deployment validation, and production-readiness checks.
- Familiarity with cloud-native engineering practices, including GCP or BigQuery touchpoints, Kubernetes concepts, CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, pull requests, peer reviews, monitoring, alerting, and release readiness.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, documentation, blocker escalation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional delivery coordination skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience
