Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer with deep expertise spanning mainframe (legacy) systems and modern cloud‑native architectures. This role will be instrumental in modernizing core systems, supporting mainframe‑to‑distributed migrations, and enabling scalable, event‑driven platforms in the cloud.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to end‑to‑end modernization initiatives, including analysis, design, build, and migration of legacy mainframe systems to distributed, cloud‑native architectures.
Translate COBOL/CICS/DB2 workloads into Java‑based microservices while preserving business logic and ensuring functional parity.
Design and develop Spring Boot–based services aligned with microservices best practices.
Build and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
Support and execute cloud migration strategies using AWS, Azure, or GCP tooling.
Implement event‑driven integration patterns using technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Collaborate with architects, platform teams, and business stakeholders to reduce technical debt and improve system scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
Ensure adherence to enterprise standards, security requirements, and CI/CD best practices.

Required Skills & Experience
Legacy (Mainframe) Stack
Strong hands‑on experience with z/OS, COBOL, CICS, and JCL
Proficiency with DB2, including data access and performance considerations
Working knowledge of VSAM and flat file processing
Experience with ChangeMan, Endevor, or similar mainframe version control and deployment tools
Modern (Distributed) Stack
Expert‑level proficiency in Java, with extensive experience using Spring Boot
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and domain‑driven design concepts
Hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, particularly in migration scenarios
Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) for asynchronous and event‑driven workflows
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
5+ years of backend development experience
3+ years of direct experience supporting mainframe‑to‑distributed system migrations
Proven delivery of at least one full‑scale core system modernization or migration
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with strangler‑fig or phased migration patterns
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and automated testing frameworks
Exposure to large‑scale retail, financial services, or regulated enterprise environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge legacy and modern engineering teams
