Job Description

The Operations Manager – Safety serves as the operational safety leader supporting the organization. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs, processes, and operational controls that enable safe execution of manufacturing, training, facilities, warehouse, maintenance, and site readiness activities.

The Operations Manager – Safety partners closely with HSE leadership, onsite safety management, operational leaders, and project stakeholders to establish a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable requirements, reduce operational risk, and support workforce readiness as project scales.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership

Support development and implementation of site-specific safety programs and operational safety processes.

Assist in establishing safety standards, procedures, and work practices aligned with client requirements.

Promote a proactive safety culture across all supported workstreams.

Ensure safety expectations are integrated into daily operations and workforce activities.

Operational Safety Management

Support safe execution of manufacturing, training, maintenance, warehouse, facilities, and commissioning activities.

Participate in operational planning to identify and mitigate safety risks.

Conduct routine field observations and safety assessments.

Monitor compliance with established safety procedures and controls.

Escalate safety concerns and support corrective action implementation.

Risk Management & Incident Prevention

Facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities.

Support development of corrective and preventive action plans.

Track safety observations, findings, and closure activities.

Analyze trends and recommend risk reduction initiatives.

Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities as required.

Safety Compliance & Governance

Maintain compliance with client safety requirements, site rules, and applicable regulatory standards.

Support audit readiness and participation in internal and external reviews.

Maintain safety documentation, records, and supporting evidence.

Ensure required safety reporting is accurate, complete, and timely.

Training & Workforce Readiness

Partner with Training leadership to ensure safety content is incorporated into onboarding and workforce development programs.

Support safety orientation and workforce readiness initiatives.

Assist with development of toolbox talks, awareness campaigns, and safety communications.

Ensure employees understand and comply with established safety requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement

Serve as a primary point of contact between operational teams and site safety leadership.

Partner with HSE personnel to address operational safety needs.

Collaborate with Manufacturing, Training, Facilities, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Digital Systems leaders on safety initiatives.

Communicate safety performance, concerns, and recommendations to leadership teams.

Team Leadership & Future Growth

Provide functional leadership for future In-Field Safety Specialists.

Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of safety personnel as the organization expands.

Establish consistent safety processes and expectations for field-based safety resources.

Governance & Documentation

Maintain and support:

Safety procedures and standards

Risk assessments and mitigation plans

Incident investigation documentation

Corrective action tracking

Safety audit and inspection records

Training compliance records

Safety metrics and performance reporting

Workforce readiness documentation

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience in occupational safety, industrial safety, EHS, construction safety, manufacturing safety, or related disciplines.

Experience supporting complex operational or industrial environments.

Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation methodologies.

Experience implementing and managing safety programs and procedures.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to work effectively in fast-paced startup or growth environments.

Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting tools.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting manufacturing, data center, infrastructure, industrial, or commissioning environments.

OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent safety credential.

Experience building safety programs in rapidly scaling organizations.

Experience leading field safety personnel.

Familiarity with contractor safety management programs.

Experience supporting large workforce mobilization efforts.
