Job Description

We are seeking a Senior CAD Designer to lead semi-complex and complex mechanical design work for electronic equipment and full product assemblies. The role focuses on building detailed 3D SolidWorks models, producing manufacturing-ready drawings, and creating and structuring mechanical BOMs. You will partner with Program Management, Technical Leads, PCB layout, and the machine shop to resolve design details, meet schedules, and improve cost, quality, and reliability. This position supports prototyping, DFM improvements, production issue resolution, design reviews, and mentoring junior designers while contributing to CDRL documentation

Additional Responsibilities:
• Confer with Project Technical Lead (TL), Engineering staff, PCB layout staff, and/or CSNT Machine Shop to resolve design details and problems
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, potential cost reduction opportunities, and quality / reliability of product
• Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts
• Creates 3D layout models of electronic assemblies and computes weights, dimensions, clearances, tolerances, interconnections, user interfaces and locations of holes
• Accounts for operating loads and thermal requirements during design phase
• Drafts detailed multiview drawings of parts and assemblies, including specifications for wiring, labeling and overlay artwork.
• Participates in the assembly of engineering prototypes and checks fit, mechanical function, manufacturability and human factors
• Modifies design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
• Monitors assemblies and parts during production to ensure compliance with design specifications
• Provides software tool training when necessary
• Participate in new software tool selection and evaluations
• Performs reviews of his/her own work and the work of other designers. Must be able to work independently
• Performs mentor role for junior designers
• Participates in defining departmental work processes, flows and standards as well as inter-departmental communication requirements
• Supports project Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documentation

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 6+ years of experience or training in related field
- Experience working with CircuitWorks
- Proficient in SolidWorks CAD tools to generate complex 3D assembly models / associated drawings and experience in Draftsight to support 2D CAD drawings
- Standard PC Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly, manufacturing methods (e.g. machining, sheet metal fabrication, castings, etc.) and assembly flow processes is helpful but not required
- Fundamentals of electronic design as it pertains to interconnects, thermal management, climatic and dynamic environmental requirements
