Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an experienced HLA Laboratory Director on behalf of a leading non-profit healthcare organization specializing in transfusion medicine, transplant support, and cellular therapy.
This individual will serve as the scientific leader responsible for overseeing histocompatibility and immunogenetics testing that directly supports solid organ and bone marrow transplantation programs. This role is critical in maintaining ASHI-accredited lab excellence, ensuring high-quality, timely results that impact life-saving clinical decisions. This is a clinical laboratory director role (scientific oversight) — not an operations or business leadership position — focused on quality, consultation, and advancing laboratory capabilities. This role is primarily onsite within a clinical lab environment, working closely with a highly tenured team in a mission-driven setting focused on directly impacting patient outcomes and saving lives.

Key Responsibilities
Scientific & Clinical Oversight
• Provide leadership across:
o Histocompatibility testing
o Immunogenetics
o Molecular diagnostics supporting transplant programs
• Deliver clinical consultation to physicians and transplant teams, including virtual crossmatch support
• Review and approve laboratory results, ensuring clinical accuracy and timeliness

Accreditation & Quality
• Ensure compliance with ASHI accreditation standards
• Maintain oversight across key accreditation areas, including:
o Solid organ transplantation (living and deceased donor)
o Bone marrow transplantation (related and unrelated donor)
• Lead quality assurance initiatives, audits, and inspections
• Drive continuous quality improvements and standardization

Innovation & Scientific Advancement
• Recommend and implement new testing methodologies and technologies
• Stay current on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in transplant science
• Contribute to scientific thought leadership (conference participation, abstracts, or publications encouraged but not required)

Collaboration & Influence
• Partner closely with laboratory operations leadership to align scientific and operational priorities
• Collaborate with additional laboratory sites across the organization to drive consistency and best practices
• Serve as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders and external clinical partners

Operational Partnership
• Operate as a strategic individual contributor (no direct reports)
• Influence laboratory direction through:
o Scientific recommendations
o Quality initiatives
o Budget-aligned decision-making (in partnership with operations leadership)
