Job Description
Overview:
A public sector organization is seeking an entry‑level Facilities Technician to support maintenance operations across multiple facilities. This role will act as a first‑line technician and vendor liaison, assisting with preventative maintenance tasks and basic facility repairs.
The position is ideal for someone who is reliable, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn, with hands‑on training provided over the next year. The technician will be gradually developed through on‑the‑job experience and exposure to a wide range of building systems.
Day‑to‑Day:
• Perform preventative maintenance on A/C units, including changing filters and belts
• Replace water filters on ice machines and drinking fountains
• Change light bulbs and ceiling tiles
• Replace batteries in handicap door push buttons and electronic keyless locks
• Respond to service calls across multiple city facilities
• Coordinate and facilitate vendor access and on‑site work
• Assist senior technicians as needed
• Maintain basic documentation of work completed
Key Responsibilities:
• Support routine facility maintenance and basic repairs
• Act as a point of contact for vendor facilitation at assigned locations
• Identify maintenance issues and escalate as needed
• Follow safety procedures and city maintenance standards
• Learn building systems and maintenance processes through hands‑on training
• Perform related duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience
Must Haves:
• 1+ years of experience as a technician or equivalent education.
• Must have a reliable personal vehicle, preferably an SUV or truck, capable of transporting equipment.
• Comfortable working across multiple facilities
• Ability to follow instructions and complete basic maintenance tasks
Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors and internal teams
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Plusses:
• Knowledge of HVAC components (motors, capacitors, contactors)
• Experience with swamp coolers (belts, pumps, pads)
• Ability to wash coils and perform light preventative maintenance
• Experience hanging pictures, whiteboards, or similar fixtures
