Insight Global is seeking a Development Engineer to join a large power generation company in their office in Phoenix, Arizona.
Reporting to the Director of Development Engineering, you will lead essential technical and engineering tasks. You will collaborate with internal experts and external consultants to deliver initial engineering solutions and offer crucial technical perspectives that propel our ambitious projects forward.
This is a permanent job opportunity based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a hybrid schedule (3 days working in office, 2 days working from home). This position requires 25% - 30% travel across the United States and Canada to support the sites.
You will contribute to our team by:
Leading the technical and engineering work for Capital Powers development projects, including greenfield and brownfield renewable and flex-generation initiatives.
Supporting the Commercial department for upgrading and optimizing existing facilities.
Supporting the Strategy department for evaluating technical feasibility of new technology.
Coordinating with internal SMEs and external consulting resources to ensure preliminary engineering deliverables meet business needs and company standards.
Managing and finalizing project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
Developing and coordinating the technical scope of work, applying internal resources or leading external consultants.
Supporting the preparation of RFP documents; including evaluation, negotiation and contracting for procurement of project specific major equipment and balance of plant contractors.
Recommending equipment selection and new concepts to improve performance and optimize costs.
Assisting in planning, estimating and scheduling of project deliverables.
Facilitating the creation of conceptual project layouts and support RFP responses.
Providing technical inputs to other departments to facilitate project approval, permitting, business case development, construction, and / or operations.
Supporting the Business Development and Commercial departments for due diligence on potential acquisition of in progress projects or existing operational assets.
Supporting the development of Project Execution and Procurement plans.
Directing multi-discipline teams to complete technical inputs.
Fostering relationships with customers, contractors, and third parties.
Providing recommendations to the Director, Development Engineering, ensuring alignment with Capital Powers strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key partners.
Collaborating with the estimating and operations groups to develop capital estimates, risk assessments, and compliance reviews for development projects and acquisitions.
Ensure cross-functional accountability and authority practices are strictly followed to achieve efficient deliverables.

8-10 years of experience in Project Engineering/Project Development/Development Engineer/etc. working on major projects dealing with front end engineering, permitting, detailed design, construction and/or acquisition of operating and greenfield developments.
2+ years of experience working on power generation projects (Thermal/Natural Gas, Renewables, or Energy Storage).
2+ year(s) of experience with vendor/supplier management and contract negotiations for major equipment procurement.
Grid scale experience.
Engineering degree.
Able to travel freely across US and Canada.
Genuine interest/passion for power generation/thermal/natural gas/solar/renewable energy.
P.E. designation is a huge asset.
Experience with PVsyst, or similar software used for design, simulation and analysis of photovoltaic systems (solar power systems).
Project management or project coordination experience.
Experience with acquisitions is strongly desired.
