Job Description

Polymer Matrix Composites Materials Engineer. The engineer will work in a cohesive interdisciplinary team environment and will be responsible for evaluating and developing non-metallic materials and processes with focus on Polymer Matrix Composites for aerospace applications.

The engineer will work with internal and external customers to define requirements, provide expert consultation, plan, and execute tests, analyze results, author technical reports, and create and revise material and process specifications.

Additional work responsibilities will include providing support in the transition of material and processes to production, providing manufacturing processing expertise to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, and providing support for continuous improvement activities.

The successful candidate must have knowledge and industrial experience, preferably in the aerospace industry, with polymer matrix composites and structural adhesives.

Hands-on experience with carbon fiber reinforced thermoset polymer matrix composites and autoclave manufacturing processes. Experience with one or more of the following polymer composites manufacturing methods, automated fiber placement, compression molding and resin transfer molding, is desired.

The successful candidate must have familiarity with polymer matrix composites material lab testing methods and be able to function effectively in both the lab and the manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate must have exceptional technical, analytical, teaming, organizational and communication skills, as well as be adept at problem solving and have an exceptionally high level of motivation and independence.

Required Skills & Experience

BS or Advanced degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

* 5+ years of industry experience with polymer matrix composite materials and manufacturing processes with a BS degree, or 3+ years with an advanced degree

* Experience with carbon fiber reinforced thermoset polymer matrix composites autoclave manufacturing.

* Familiarity with polymer matrix composites lab testing, including mechanical and physical characterization techniques.

* US Citizenship required due to government contracts

* Ability to obtain DOD security clearance
