Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Drafter to join Capital Power in Calgary, Alberta, on a 12 month contract 3 days a week on-site in Edmonton. This role plays a crucial part in supporting engineering, operations, document control, and project execution by updating, organizing, and maintaining Capital Power’s extensive electronic drawing library. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams to process, upload, review, and revise technical drawings, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance with organizational standards.
This is a highly detail‑oriented role focused on reducing a large drafting backlog, improving data quality within electronic drawing systems, and supporting ongoing updates to engineering documentation.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of professional drafting experience in a heavy industrial environment (power generation, utilities, oil & gas, or similar).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Vault, and Bluebeam for drawing creation, review, markup, and control.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with engineers, document control, and project managers.
• Experience working with large drawing libraries and document control systems; this role includes uploading and organizing 8,000+ drawings.
• Ability to perform metadata entry, quality checks, and data management, with approximately:
• 10% drawing updates
• 90% metadata verification, document processing, and drawing system organization
• Solid understanding of document control, drawing revision history, and engineering records management.
• Experience identifying and resolving issues such as duplicates, missing data, incorrect metadata, or outdated drawings, and escalating discrepancies when required.
Ability to perform both hands-on drafting work and technical processing of drawings into electronic systems.
