Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Field Commissioning Technician to support a large renewable energy client across three utility‑scale solar sites in North Carolina. This is a long‑term, full‑time field assignment requiring 50+ hours per week onsite. The technician will begin at the Hornet Solar site for approximately six months, then transition to Bear Branch and Maple Leaf for subsequent six‑month phases (18‑month total contract).

This role will serve as the client’s eyes in the field, verifying EPC construction quality, supporting commissioning activities, and coordinating closely with Duke Energy to ensure the sites can be safely energized. The Field Commissioning Technician will perform extensive field walkdowns, manage punch lists, validate electrical installations, and support turnover documentation. This position requires relocation near each site as the project progresses.

Required Skills & Experience

- 5–10 years of experience in the power industry (solar strongly preferred, wind or natural gas acceptable)

- Experience working with DC and AC systems, medium‑voltage and high‑voltage equipment, and general industrial electrical environments

- Ability to perform extensive field work, including walking long distances, climbing, and lifting as required

- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook for documentation and reporting

- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, cable schedules, and design packages

- Experience completing turnover documentation and validating that construction matches design requirements

- Strong electrical background from an electrician or electrical technician trade or engineering background

- Excellent communication skills and comfort working with EPC partners, utilities, and client stakeholders

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Prior experience commissioning utility‑scale solar projects
- Familiarity with solar tracking systems, substation equipment, and large‑scale cabling installations
