Project Controls Specialist

Insight Global is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support a large capital program within a utilities/energy environment. This role blends project controls (60%) and Power BI/data analysis (40%), with a focus on improving forecast accuracy, cost control, and reporting insights across multiple active projects. This is a 12-month contract position requiring on-site presence five days per week in Edmonton, AB.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage cost control and forecasting across ~30 projects/year and 100+ active work orders
• Analyze budget vs. actuals vs. forecast, identifying variances and improving accuracy
• Apply earned value metrics (CPI/SPI) to evaluate project performance
• Develop and refine cash flow forecasts based on resource-driven schedules
• Utilize Power BI and Excel to analyze data, validate inputs, and support self-serve reporting
• Work within Primavera P6 to update key schedule inputs and understand cost impacts
• Integrate data from systems such as Oracle, P6, and Databricks into actionable insights
• Partner with project teams, finance, and stakeholders to communicate performance and risks

• 5+ years of experience in project controls, cost control, or forecasting
• Strong Excel and Power BI skills (data analysis, reporting, and data model understanding)
• Working knowledge of Primavera P6
• Experience with financial systems (Oracle, SAP, or similar)
• Understanding of WBS, cost structures, and resource-loaded planning
• Strong financial acumen and ability to improve forecast accuracy

• Experience in utilities, construction, or oil & gas environments
• Experience working in high-volume, multi-project environments
