Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an Engineer in Training to join one of Canadas leading oil and gas companies out of Fort McMurray, in a 1 year, fully on site contract. This resource will support the Resident Geotechnical Engineer (RGE) and the Engineer of Record (EOR) to manage the risks of tailing facilities and earthen structures for the mine and the organization.

Responsibilities will vary across different structures and their consequence classifications or their risks. In large part the facility engineer works with the EOR and the RGE by:
· Reviewing designs and construction drawings
· Assisting RGE and EOR to review daily construction reports
· Collecting and summarizing quality control data, surveys, aerial imagery, production data
· Participating in meetings with the EOR and or RGE working with other stakeholders (mine planning teams, development teams, design teams, project teams, field services, regulatory teams)
· Working with the EOR on instrumentation and performance monitoring for various structures
· Supporting production of routine reports or processes for construction and performance
· Summarizing monthly construction QA data
· Participating in visual inspections for construction and performance


Through these responsibilities will develop:
· An understanding of geotechnical engineering design, testing, construction and performance
· Geotechnical theory and principles including concepts of seepage through soils and slope stability
· Understanding of geotechnical and materials lab tests Natural Moisture Content, PSD, Hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, Consolidation, Direct Shear, Triaxial, Permeability, Standard and Modified Proctors
· Knowledge on geotechnical instrumentation Slope Inclinometers, Piezometers, Pressure Cells, Settlement Monitoring Instruments etc.
· Understanding of heavy construction equipment such as haul trucks, graders, dozers, rollers, cranes, backhoes etc.

Required Skills & Experience

· Degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, and or Mining Engineering preferred
· Engineer-in-Training with APEGA
·Basic understanding of geotechnical theory and principles, geotechnical instrumentation, and lab testing

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

· Familiarity with AutoCAD, Minerstat, and Global Mapper
