Job Description
Design and build Kafka-based event streaming solutions from scratch
Develop and support real-time data pipelines (moving from batch to real-time)
Work closely with app dev SMEs to design backend architecture
Build out event-driven services using Kafka / IBM Event Streams
Support two primary initiatives (~80%):
Converting batch processing systems into real-time streaming systems
Modernizing mainframe integrations using real-time data via SOAP services
Ensure systems are scalable, high-performance, and production-ready
Contribute to a Pega platform migration (approx. 10% of time)
Help drive architecture and implementation for multiple projects delivering by EOY

Required Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with Kafka (Apache Kafka / IBM Event Streams)
Experience building event-driven architectures from scratch
Backend development + infrastructure experience (not just admin/support)
Experience working with real-time data streaming (vs batch processing)
Experience building high-performance, scalable services
Familiar with integrating legacy systems (mainframe, SOAP services) into modern architectures
Experience in event-driven development (producers/consumers, topics, messaging patterns)
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with IBM Event Streams specifically
Experience converting batch systems to real-time streaming
Experience working with mainframe integrations
Exposure to SOAP-based services
Experience supporting enterprise modernization initiatives
Pega experience or supporting Pega upgrades/migrations
Prior work on multiple concurrent projects with tight EOY deadlines
