Job Description
The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of the Alabama LLC fiber network. This role provides technical leadership across XGS-PON access, transport infrastructure, and IP core, ensuring operational excellence, vendor accountability, and a superior customer experience. The Director partners with internal teams and external vendors to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable fiber-based services throughout Alabama.
Application is at utility layer, not just corporate layer. Overseeing the designs that were already approved architecturally.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Hands on experience with “fiber to a premise”
• 7–10+ years in service-provider or fiber to the home networking with hands-on design, implementation, and operations at scale (PON, optical, IP/MPLS).
• Proven Tier-II/III escalation experience
• Optical DWDM; IP routing/switching (Layer 2/Layer 3); QoS/traffic engineering
o Optical DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is a technology that uses multiple, closely spaced wavelengths (colors) of light to send many separate data streams (voice, video, data) simultaneously over a single optical fiber, dramatically increasing total network capacity by maximizing fiber usage for long-haul and metro networks, using components like multiplexers, demultiplexers, amplifiers, and add/drop modules. It's crucial for high-bandwidth needs, allowing providers to add services without laying more fiber
• Experience with lit & dark fiber engineering (OTDR, power budget, span loss, route diversity)
