Insight Global is searching for a Staff Accountant to join a client in the downtown Birmingham area. The Staff Accountant applies accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties. These duties include but are not limited to properly analyzing and recording the company's assets-capital and non-capital, its inventory, and related liabilities, and the proper recording of cash, accounts receivable, investments, debt, and cost of capital.
Other Responsibilities Include:
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries for the general ledger to completely document business transactions and prepare related reconciliations.
Perform analysis to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes; write narrative reports explaining findings.
Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital--to assist in preparing the balance sheet, income statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
Review and prepare bank reconciliations.
Prepare financial and other monthly reports for executive management.
Track and report monthly progress on The Board's spend regarding the HUBE report.
Record transactions related to investments to include purchases, sales, interest accruals and payments, premiums, and discounts.
Capitalize fixed assets and capital projects as needed.
Assign proper general ledger accounts to project cost line items. Review individual project cost statements and submit them for invoicing or payment.
Participate in the rotation of the month-end close-out process.
Support the annual audit process by providing the requested supporting documentation needed.
Record transactions related to long-term debt to include interest accruals, premiums and discounts, principal and interest payments, bond issue costs, and gains and losses.
Prepare and process Unclaimed Property in accordance with state requirements.
Perform inventory accounting functions of equipment and chemicals. This requires daily, weekly and monthly routines to ensure the accuracy of reported data for payment.
Provide backup support to the accounts payable function as needed.

* Bachelor's degree in accounting.
* Six (6) months of experience in accounting or finance department setting.
* Analytical skills, general ledger journal entries, reconciliations, and budget line items experience.
* Experience with:
o Cash and accounts receivable
o Unclaimed Property
o Investments and Long-Term debt
o Fixed assets using project costs (strongly preferred)
o Payroll
o SAP or other ERP system
