Job Description

The equipment is generally spec'd out. Need to understand how to select this equipment.

A client is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer in Huntsville, AL. This person will support a portfolio of project for DOE and commercial nuclear customers. This Engineer will figure out operations and design scenarios to build the systems of a plant. The equipment is generally spec'd out, and this person needs to understand how to select this equipment. This includes the creation of PFDs (process flow diagrams) and P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams). Identifying/choosing equipment to use such as pump, valves, pipes, reactors, and the sizing of these things. This person is creating the technical data package to then pass to the shop team who will do the build. He/she is also designing process systems that include safety, compliance with codes like API 620/621, B31.3, ASME VIII.

Required Skills & Experience

8+ years of relevant experience

Proficient in calculating mass energy balances by hand

Experience creating/refining P&IDs, PFDs, and UFDs

Experience writing specifications of data for selecting facility equipment such as pumps, valves, pipes, reactors for chemistry, etc.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

PE license

Preparing and running test procedures

Tools for calculations: Aero, Fatham, Aspen

compliance with codes like API 620/621, B31.3, ASME VIII
