A client in the Huntsville, AL area is seeking an Accountant who will work under the general direction of the Finance Manager and has the primary responsibility for assisting the Finance Manager with the operation of the Finance Department to include the Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and other accounting functions.
Specific Duties will include:
- Reviews preliminary payroll edits with all timesheets on a biweekly basis before the payroll run and ensures the total hours on payroll report ties to tape run for the pay period
- Reviews paychecks after they are cut. Make sure there is a paycheck per group of timesheets and audits to make sure there are no unusual deductions
- Reviews payroll transfers and check requests
- Reviews accounts payable batches. Update these batches daily for the weekly check run
- Reviews check requests and funds transfers
- Reviews monthly journal entries prepared by Finance Manager and updates in the system
- Prepares monthly journal entries for posting in general ledger
- Prepares monthly invoices and submits electronically to WAWF and other sub-contractors
- Prepares general ledger reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts
- Prepares monthly inventory issuance journal entry
- Prepares Union reports and check requests including Health, Pension, Apprentice Fund, and Dues
- Prepares weekly Davis Bacon Report
- Prepares cash receipts journal entries and sends receipts to the corporate office
- Updates weekly Accounts Payable check run
- Maintains familiarity with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, FAR, and Contract as well as keeping up to date with changes to each
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting
OR
-5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience may be substituted for formal education requirement
- 3 years of Accounts Payable experience
- Experience using standardized payroll software for data entry, processing, and inquiry
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word at an intermediate level or higher
- U.S. Citizen
