Job Description

Day to Day:
A client of Insight Global in the government sector is looking to add a GIS Specialist to their Public Works department. This candidate will be working on a variety of city-wide projects relating to asphalt overlay, sidewalk repair/reconstruction, curb control, erosion and traffic control, etc. This person will be reporting into the Public Works Utility Coordinator and will help assist on a variety of permitting and GIS work across the department. The GIS Specialist will support engineering and infrastructure projects by managing spatial data, creating and maintaining maps, and integrating permit and asset data into geospatial platforms. This role blends CAD work, ESRI-based GIS mapping, and data management to ensure accurate, accessible, and up-to-date project documentation.
Daily Responsibilities:
GIS & Mapping (majority of responsibility)
Create, update, and publish maps using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other ESRI products.
Develop and maintain project-level maps (e.g., sidewalk and street overlay projects), including line work and spatial documentation.
Map and track permits (1,200–2,400/month), identifying and mapping relevant subsets.
Join permit data with drawings and other datasets to create comprehensive spatial representations.
Maintain metadata and ensure data integrity across mapping platforms.
Represent permit and street reservation data (e.g., micro surfacing, overlays) in a geospatial format.
Data Integration & Management
Work with SETs (Senior Engineering Techs/Inspectors) to pull data from the data warehouse and make it accessible via GIS platforms.
Tie together disparate datasets (permits, drawings, asset records) to support decision-making and visualization.
Manage and update the OpenGov Asset Management Database with spatial data.
CAD Work
Perform CAD drafting and line work for new and ongoing infrastructure projects.
Translate CAD drawings into GIS-compatible formats for mapping and analysis.

Required Skills & Experience

MUST HAVES:
1+ years of experience with AutoCAD 2D
3+ years of experience within GIS
Working within ArcGIS and ESRI products
